Fix an empty search or wrong state

Understand state validation, local filters and retained results.

Use a valid two-letter state code. Android accepts letters, converts them to capitals and limits the field to two characters. A complete but invalid code produces an explanation when you try to load it. This directory currently covers the 50 states; do not assume a territory or District of Columbia download is available.

Changing the state field does not automatically replace an already loaded directory. Press Load state directory. Until a new load succeeds, the app identifies the state of the retained results and warns when it differs from the field. A failed download does not turn old results into data for the new state.

If a local search shows no matches, clear extra words, try the county or a nearby city, or use a broad service such as food, housing, healthcare or outreach. Missing results can mean incomplete source coverage or different wording. Use Sources or call 211 for additional options.
